  4. Pasokon TV supports a wide variety of popular printers
  5. including color printers.
  6.  
  7. To print:
  8.  
  9.         Simply pick "Print" from the "File" menu.
  10.  
  11. To select printer type:
  12.  
  13.         Use the items in the "Setup" menu.  The currently
  14.         selected printer type will have a check mark in
  15.         front of it.  The setting will be saved in the 
  16.         PKTV.CFG configuration file.
  17.  
  18. Printer types supported:
  19.  
  20. *   "Epson 9 pin"    
  21.     
  22.         This should work with just about any Epson-compatible
  23.         dot matrix printer.
  24.  
  25.         It uses print mode 4 (ESC '*' 4) for 80 horizontal dots
  26.         per inch or a total of 640 dots per line.  
  27.  
  28. *   "9 pin 7 color ribbon"       
  29.     
  30.         This is for color dot matrix printers with 7 color
  31.         ribbons such as an Epson FX-850.
  32.  
  33.         Some printers give you a choice of Epson or IBM
  34.         compatibility.  Make sure it is set for Epson mode.
  35.         For example, set DIP switch 1 in a Tandy DMP 137.
  36.  
  37. *   "Epson 24 pin"
  38.  
  39.         Pick this for most 24 pin printers such as the 
  40.         Epson LQ series and other compatible models.
  41.  
  42.         This uses print mode 39 (ESC '*' 39).  I don't know
  43.         if the older 24 pin printers support this.
  44.  
  45. *   "24 pin 7 color ribbon"
  46.  
  47.         Most Epson-compatible 24 pin printers with a 7 color
  48.         ribbon.
  49.  
  50. *   "Epson Stylus BW"
  51.  
  52.         Epson Stylus in black and white.
  53.  
  54. *   "Epson Stylus color"
  55.  
  56.         Epson Stylus in color.
  57.  
  58. *   "HP LaserJet"         
  59.  
  60.         HP LaserJet Laser printer using PCL language.
  61.  
  62. *   "HP DeskJet"          
  63.  
  64.         B&W only HP Deskjet ink jet printer.
  65.  
  66. *   "HP DeskJet CMY"      
  67.  
  68.         HP DeskJet using 3 colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow.
  69.         Some models, such as the 500C, can not use black
  70.         ink while using the color cartridge.  In this case
  71.         you must use the 3 color mode.
  72.  
  73. *   "HP DeskJet CMYK"    
  74.  
  75.         HP DeskJet using 4 colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black.
  76.         Later models, such as the 550C, can print black and
  77.         colors at the same time for better contrast.
  78.  
  79.         If not sure whether to use 3 or 4 color mode, try them
  80.         both and see which looks better.

  82. *   "Canon Bubble Jet"
  83.  
  84.         Canon Bubble Jet series in black and white.
  85.  
  86.         This program uses the Epson LQ mode of the BJC
  87.         printers as recommended by Canon tech support.  
  88.         Some models seem to switch automatically between 
  89.         BJ and Epson mode.  On others it might be 
  90.         necessary to set the switches:
  91.  
  92.                 BJC-600:        DIP switch 12 on
  93.                 BJC-600e:       DIP switch 11 on
  94.                 BJC-4000:       DIP switch 11 on
  95.  
  96.         The BJ mode is the factory default setting.  
  97.  
  98. *   "Bubble Jet Color"
  99.  
  100.         Same as above but in color.
  101.  
  102. *   "PostScript"          
  103.  
  104.         For a PostScript printer.  B+W only.

  107. Gamma Correction
  108. ----------------
  109.  
  110. Printers can not produce shades of gray.  For each dot position
  111. there is either a dot printed or no dot printed.  Shades of
  112. gray are simulated by printing patterns with varying proportions
  113. of black and white areas.  When viewed from a distance, the
  114. individual dots blend into shades of gray.
  115.  
  116. Consider these patterns:
  117.  
  118.         ████    All the dots are set to black.
  119.         ████
  120.  
  121.         ▓▓▓▓    3/4 of the dots are black, dark gray.
  122.         ▓▓▓▓
  123.  
  124.         ▒▒▒▒    1/2 of the dots are black, medium gray.
  125.         ▒▒▒▒
  126.  
  127.         ░░░░    1/4 of the dots are black, light gray.
  128.         ░░░░

  130. You might think that a checker board pattern with half the
  131. dots printed and half the dots blank would give medium gray.
  132. However, in most cases, the dots overlap slightly to
  133. provide solid black.  If eactly half the dots were printed,
  134. more than half the area would contain ink and it would be
  135. darker than desired.  
  136.  
  137. A non-linear mathematical function, called gamma correction, 
  138. is used to compensate for this characteristic.  
  139.  
  140. A gamma correction value of 1 means print half the dots for
  141. medium gray.  A smaller value results in fewer dots. 
  142.  
  143. Examples:
  144.  
  145.     * HP recommends 0.3 for the DeskJet series.
  146.     * I think 0.5 looks good for an HP LaserJet.
